Artist Reception: Thomas P. Fehlner

Come join us for an artist reception for Thomas P. Fehlner, one of our studio members and an amazing oil painter. Tom's portrait work is outstanding, playful in the use of colors and hidden messages, and some even feature use of 3D printing, sculpture and ceramics. His work is currently on display in our main class area at MAKE. This reception will allow you to meet Tom, see his studio, and enjoy an evening of light refreshments. Fehlner:&nbsp;</div><div>After a career as professor of chemistry at the University of Notre Dame, I entered retirement in 2006 with the intention of exploring the world of art…an activity I enjoyed immensely in my youth. With no formal art training I have relied on books, personal interactions with local artists, frequent visits to the Art Institute of Chicago and simply drawing whenever and wherever I could…at home or abroad. Noteworthy are the Thursday mornings in Shirley RotiRoti’s studio in Buchanan MI and drawing from the model at the Buchanan Art Center on Wednesday and the Box Factory in St. Joseph on Monday. Most of the works in this exhibit are from the latter two venues. The focus is people…all different kinds comfortable in their own skins or dressed up to pose for the artist. The more complex paintings use these models and place them in imaginary contexts depending on the whims of the artist. Each of the latter tells a story.</div>
