Glass Blowing Class - Vase or Fluted Vase

Ohio Glass Museum

Add some colorful flare to your home decor with your own, custom blown glass vase!

Pick your two favorite colors from our wall of 60+ glass colors!  With the help of our instructor, you'll add those colors onto the surface of the clear molten glass.  You will see your glass vase take shape as you add your breath with a blow hose to inflate into a totally unique art glass vessel! Final piece will be approximately 6-8" tall.

No experience necessary; ages 12 and up with adult supervision.

Your glass art will be annealed (cooled down slowly) and ready to be picked up the next day we are open.  Shipping can be arranged for an additional cost at the time of your class.

All class-made glass must be picked up within 3 months of class time.  If items are left beyond 3 months, they become property of Ohio Glass Museum.

Cancellation Policy:  Please be sure you can attend class at the time of registration.  24 hour notice required to keep payment as CREDIT to be used towards another class.  All sales final, no refunds.

Because your class takes place before/after the Ohio Glass Museum closes, the front doors will be locked.  Please come to the back door which is labeled "Glass Studio."  The door will be unlocked - just walk right in!

Please make every effort to arrive no later than listed starting time.  Safety, orientation, and demonstration will take place, then participants will make their glass item one at a time with the instructor.  After you make your glass item, you are free to leave the class.  You do not have to stay the full three hours.

Parking can be found behind the Museum itself and spots #75, #76, #77, #78 in the large parking lot.  Parking lots behind the Musuem are open to park in after 5pm.

SAFETY GUIDELINES

Your safety and ours is important to us! So, anyone who will be working with glass must read our Safety Policy and fill out our Questionnaire/Waiver and Release agreement before Studio workshops or classes!  No sandals or open toed/heeled shoes allowed.

If you are participating in an event please add the event sponsor’s name.  If this is for someone younger than 18 years old the parent or guardian should fill it out and accompany them to the studio.

Safety Policy

Working with glass is an exciting experience, however a few simple rules are needed to ensure a safe and memorable time. It is important to be constantly aware of yourself, others, and your surroundings!

Assume everything in this studio is very hot and/or sharp. Be careful where you lean or place your hands. If you don’t know, don’t touch! If you prefer not to participate in a certain step or activity let us know. This is all about having fun and exploring the process of working with glass. In the unlikely event there is an accident notify a staff member immediately.

For the safety of others if you are sick or think you may be coming down with something, please contact the Museum to kindly reschedule your class.

Pay close attention to your instructor.  They will demonstrate the entire work process and walk you through each step. Ask questions or let them know if you are uncomfortable at any time.

A studio can be a dangerous environment where things can happen very quickly. Be prepared to stay focused and pay attention at all times. Watch out for others and always announce when you are moving with hot tools or hot glass in hand.

We work with high temperatures and you must hydrate before, during, and after your participation. If you feel dizzy, weak or need a break notify staff and move away from the equipment to rehydrate.

In our effort to ensure your safety and the safety of others we require everyone to fill out a safety questionnaire.

We reserve the right to deny access or remove any participant from an event based on our assessment of the individual’s potential risk of injury.

In preparation:
Wear natural fibers – cotton or wool. Natural fibers hold sweat, while nylon and other synthetics can melt with heat and stick/burn to the skin. Long sleeves and blue jeans are recommended to protect your skin from the heat. Do not wear bulky, loose or heavy clothing.  If you wear a skirt or shorts, they must cover your entire lap when you are seated.

Wear closed toe shoes – no open toes or heels, no sandals. You will be standing most of the time so wear comfortable shoes.

Protect your eyes – All participants are required to wear eye protection.  Prescription eyeglasses are fine, or we have both clear and tinted safety glasses available for your usage.  If you have sunglasses or safety glasses, you can bring them.

Please tie back long hair.

Hydrate. Drink lots of water prior to your participation. Bringing your own water or sports drinks work best.

No alcohol or illegal drugs. Studios are smoke free.

Do not: wear heavy metal jewelry that hangs away from your body as it conducts heat, especially watches or bracelets on your wrists.

Do not: wear lipstick, lip gloss or Chapstick. Some projects require blowing through the pipe and lip cosmetics add to contamination.

Do not:  blow in our pipes if you are sick or think you may be sick.  Please kindly contact the Museum to reschedule your class.

Do not:  perfumes, colognes, or products with a strong fragrance or smell.

We encourage you to take pictures! If you post on social media, be sure to tag #ohioglassmuseum.  Please notify us if we cannot use your image for marketing/web site purposes.

EVERYONE must fill out a questionnaire and sign a waiver/release form before working in the studio.
Anyone under 18 MUST be accompanied or signed in by an adult.
